Ryan Hunter-Reay

Ryan Hunter-Reay established himself as one of IndyCar's premier drivers through a career spanning multiple series and achieving the sport's highest honors. His professional racing journey has taken him through the now-defunct Champ Car World Series, where he secured two victories, before transitioning to the IndyCar Series where he would make his greatest mark.

The defining moment of Hunter-Reay's career came in 2012 when he captured the IndyCar Series championship, cementing his status among the sport's elite. Two years later, he achieved every American open-wheel driver's dream by winning the Indianapolis 500 in 2014, adding his name to the prestigious list of 500 winners.

Born December 17, 1980, Ryan Christopher Hunter-Reay has faced personal tragedy that shaped his advocacy work. He lost his mother to colon cancer in 2009, a loss that deeply affected him and motivated his involvement in cancer awareness.

Following his mother's passing, Hunter-Reay became a spokesman for Racing for Cancer, an advocacy organization dedicated to raising awareness about the disease. Prior to 2023, he drove the number 28 car in the NTT IndyCar Series as a symbolic gesture supporting the estimated 28 million people living with cancer worldwide, turning his racing platform into a vehicle for meaningful advocacy.
