Early Life

Casey Mears was born in Bakersfield, California, into motorsports royalty as the third generation of a legendary American racing family. He is the son of four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Rick Mears and nephew of Roger Mears, inheriting a racing pedigree that runs deep in motorsports history.

Growing up in a household where racing was the family business, Mears was naturally drawn to motorsports from an early age. However, unlike his father who dominated open-wheel racing, Casey would eventually find his calling in stock car racing.

Junior Career

His early career included time in various open-wheel series, following the traditional Mears family path before making the transition to NASCAR. Mears worked his way up through NASCAR's developmental series, competing in what was then known as the Busch Series (now Xfinity Series) to hone his stock car racing skills.

His talent and famous surname helped open doors, but he had to prove himself capable of carrying on the family racing tradition in a different discipline than his father's specialty.

Racing Career

Casey made his NASCAR Cup Series debut in the early 2000s and quickly established himself as a competent driver capable of running competitively with quality equipment. Throughout his Cup Series career, Mears drove for several prominent teams including Chip Ganassi Racing and Hendrick Motorsports, two organizations known for fielding competitive equipment.

One of his most notable career highlights came in 2007 when he captured his first and only Cup Series victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway, driving the iconic number 25 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports. This victory was particularly sweet as it came at one of NASCAR's most prestigious venues and validated his place among the sport's winners.

His time with Hendrick Motorsports was particularly significant, as he joined one of NASCAR's most successful organizations and was teammates with some of the sport's biggest stars. Later in his career, Mears transitioned between various teams and eventually moved into more of a part-time role, competing in selected races rather than running full seasons.

Driving Style

Mears was known as a smooth, technical driver who could extract performance from his equipment without being overly aggressive. His open-wheel background likely contributed to his precise driving style, and he was generally regarded as someone who took care of his equipment while remaining competitive.

He showed particular strength on certain types of tracks and was considered a solid teammate who could provide valuable feedback to help develop the cars.

Personal Life

Beyond his racing career, Mears has maintained a relatively private personal life compared to some of his more high-profile contemporaries. He has been involved in various charitable activities and has occasionally participated in racing events outside of NASCAR, including sports car racing and other motorsports disciplines.
