Nikola Tsolov captured a dramatic Miami Sprint victory to secure his second win of the 2026 FIA Formula 2 season, beating Laurens van Hoepen and Alex Dunne in a flat-out run to the flag. The Campos Racing driver prevailed after a breathless final lap to become Formula 2’s first-ever race winner in Miami.
Starting from pole, Tsolov controlled the pace for much of the distance but never shook van Hoepen, who shadowed him throughout. The Trident driver kept the pressure on and lined up a decisive attack as the race reached its climax.
On the final tour, van Hoepen dived past for the lead at Turn 11. Tsolov immediately fought back, using DRS to reclaim track position into Turn 17 as the pair ran wheel-to-wheel.
Their duel invited Alpine Academy member Dunne into contention. The Rodin Motorsport driver tried to pounce with a bold move on both at the penultimate corner, but Tsolov’s stronger exit delivered the momentum he needed to edge ahead and take the chequered flag.
Behind the podium battle, Van Amersfoort Racing’s Nico Varrone finished fourth, ahead of Invicta Racing’s Joshua Duerksen and his teammate Martinius Stenshorne in sixth. Alpine-backed Gabriele Minì took seventh for MP Motorsport, with DAMS Lucas Oil’s Dino Beganovic eighth.
The third Alpine Academy member in the field, Kush Maini, is set to start from pole in Sunday’s Miami Feature Race, with lights out scheduled for 12:30 local time. Attention now turns to whether Tsolov can carry his Sprint momentum into the longer race as the weekend reaches its conclusion.
