Mi Hyang Lee has positioned herself for victory at the Blue Bay LPGA Championship, building a three-shot lead after Saturday's third round at Jian Lake Blue Bay Golf Club in Hainan, China.
Lee carded a 1-over 71 in challenging conditions to reach 12-under 204 for the tournament. Her three-round total of 67-66-71 gives her a comfortable cushion heading into Sunday's final round of the $2.6 million event.
Two players are tied for second place at 9-under 207. Hye Jin Choi bounced back from an opening 71 with consecutive rounds of 68, while Yu Liu followed her impressive second-round 66 with a 73 on Saturday.
The leaderboard remains tightly packed behind Lee, with six players within four shots of the lead. Aditi Ashok, A Lim Kim, and Rio Takeda are all tied for fourth at 8-under 208, each taking different paths to reach that position.
Two more players sit at 7-under 209, just five shots back. Auston Kim struggled with a 74 after opening rounds of 67-68, while Weiwei Zhang posted a steady 72 following her tournament-opening 66.
The third round proved challenging for many players on the 6,712-yard, par-72 layout. Weather conditions and pin positions appeared to test even the most experienced professionals on the LPGA Tour.
Lucy Li and Muni He are among those positioned at 6-under 210, still within striking distance with one round remaining. Li bounced back from consecutive 71s with a third-round 67, while He maintained consistency with rounds of 71-69-70.
Several notable players find themselves further down the leaderboard but still in contention. Leona Maguire sits at 5-under 211 after rounds of 69-73-69, while former major champions like Hinako Shibuno (214) and Yuka Saso (218) face uphill battles in the final round.
With ideal scoring conditions possible for the final round, Lee will need to maintain her composure and continue the solid play that has carried her to this point. Her closest pursuers will be seeking the hot round needed to overcome the three-shot deficit and claim victory in China.
