Marc Marquez turned a brutal weekend of attrition into the round number that defines greatness, beating Pedro Acosta in a straight fight at Balaton Park to claim the 100th Grand Prix victory of his career. The Ducati Lenovo rider becomes only the third man in premier-class history to reach a century of wins across all classes, joining Giacomo Agostini and Valentino Rossi in motorcycling's most exclusive club.
It was Marquez's first win since Misano in 2025 and his first of a stop-start 2026, arriving barely a month after shoulder surgery that had cast doubt over his season. The emotion was obvious afterwards.
"Super happy. Expensive win because after last year it changed everything," Marquez said. He framed the result as another chapter in a career repeatedly interrupted by injury. "But the sport is like this. From one day to the other, one can change everything. I learned this in 2020."
He reserved his thanks for the people who got him back on the bike. "I want to say thanks to the people that believed in me — the doctors, the physios, a lot of hours at home working. The prize was expensive but I'm happy to make another comeback."
The win was anything but routine. Acosta led the early laps on the Red Bull KTM and resisted hard as Marquez reeled him in, the pair trading positions through the closing stages. There was contact at the final corner on lap 14 before Marquez forced the decisive move through the chicane a lap later, then stretched clear to take the flag by 1.3 seconds. For KTM, second place was the high point of a competitive weekend that still ended just short.
"I didn't do a good start and when I started to brake, I just saw something arriving so fast," Bagnaia said. "It was Martin arriving at double the speed. The new tarmac on corner one was very slippery."
Behind the podium, Ai Ogura took fourth for Trackhouse, with Luca Marini fifth on the leading Honda. Diogo Moreira, Iker Lecuona, Jack Miller, Enea Bastianini and Brad Binder completed the top ten.
The result reshapes the title picture without settling it. Marco Bezzecchi remains the championship leader on 180 points despite scoring nothing, with Jorge Martin second on 160, Fabio di Giannantonio on 138 and Acosta on 132. Marquez sits fifth on 108 — 72 points adrift, but suddenly the form rider with the season's second half opening up in front of him.
For a man who has spent more of the last six years in operating theatres than on the top step, the maths matter less than the milestone. One hundred wins, and a comeback that, by his own account, cost him plenty.
