Andrea Kimi Antonelli extended his 2026 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship lead with a hard-fought victory at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. He spent more than 30 laps locked in battle with Mercedes teammate George Russell before Russell retired with a mechanical issue, clearing the path to the flag.
Lewis Hamilton climbed to second place after a late overtake on Max Verstappen in the closing laps. Charles Leclerc and Isack Hadjar rounded out the top five, while Franco Colapinto claimed a career-best sixth. Liam Lawson, Pierre Gasly, Carlos Sainz and Oliver Bearman completed the points.

Antonelli’s Montreal triumph follows a strong start to the season. He also won in Miami, where he led home McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. George Russell finished fifth, Max Verstappen sixth, with Lewis Hamilton and Alpine’s Franco Colapinto seventh and eighth. Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz and Alexander Albon completed the points.
At Suzuka, Antonelli prevailed again, beating Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc. George Russell, Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton and Pierre Gasly followed, with Max Verstappen, Liam Lawson and Esteban Ocon taking the remaining points.
The Chinese Grand Prix delivered another Antonelli victory ahead of Russell and Hamilton. Charles Leclerc, Oliver Bearman and Pierre Gasly were fourth to sixth, while Liam Lawson, Isack Hadjar, Carlos Sainz and Franco Colapinto rounded out the top ten.
The season opened in Australia with George Russell winning for Mercedes, joined on the podium by Antonelli and Leclerc. Hamilton and Norris were fourth and fifth, ahead of Verstappen and Bearman, with Arvid Lindblad, Gabriel Bortoleto and Pierre Gasly securing the final points.
The championship fight now shifts to the next round, with Antonelli seeking to consolidate his advantage, Russell aiming to rebound from his Canadian retirement, and the chasers—led by Leclerc, Hamilton and Norris—looking to close the gap as the season progresses.
