In a significant development for Formula 1, Carlos Sainz has finalized a multi-year agreement with Williams, ensuring his presence in the sport for the 2025 season and beyond.
Having been a part of Ferrari since 2021, Sainz previously faced the challenge of securing a seat for the upcoming year after being sidelined in February in favor of Lewis Hamilton. With options at Red Bull and Mercedes closed off following discussions, Sainz is now stepping into a new chapter with the Grove-based team and will team up with Alex Albon for the next season.
Reflecting on his decision, Sainz expressed, "It is no secret that this year’s driver market has been exceptionally complex for various reasons and that it has taken me some time to announce my decision." He emphasized his positivity towards this new opportunity, stating, "However, I am fully confident that Williams is the right place for me to continue my F1 journey and I am extremely proud of joining such a historic and successful team... The ultimate goal of bringing Williams back to where it belongs, at the front of the grid, is a challenge that I embrace with excitement and positivity."
Sainz's track record includes a groundbreaking first victory at Silverstone in 2022 and a triumphant win in Singapore last year, where he was notably the only driver outside of Red Bull to secure a grand prix victory in 2023. Despite his commendable racing history, including stints with Toro Rosso, Renault, and McLaren, he faces the task of revitalizing a team that currently sits near the bottom of the constructors' standings.
James Vowles, the team principal at Williams and a former Mercedes strategist, heralded Sainz's addition as a major boost for the racing team. He remarked, "Carlos joining Williams is a strong statement of intent from both parties. Carlos has demonstrated time and again that he is one of the most talented drivers on the grid, with race-winning pedigree, and this underlines the upwards trajectory we are on."

In a show of sportsmanship, he also acknowledged Logan Sargeant, the American currently driving for Williams, expressing, "I also want to thank Logan for everything he has done for the team and know he will continue to fight hard for us in the races ahead."
