The TT Circuit Assen has captured motorsport's most prestigious event award after being named Best Grand Prix of 2025, following a centenary celebration that shattered attendance records.
The Motul Grand Prix of the Netherlands earned the coveted recognition through a comprehensive evaluation process involving teams and paddock stakeholders. The award considers every element of each MotoGP event, from racing quality to fan experience.
Assen's victory comes during a milestone year marking 100 years since racing competition first began in the area. The historic venue has welcomed MotoGP longer than any other circuit, hosting the championship since its inaugural 1949 season.
The 2025 Dutch Grand Prix attracted more than 200,000 spectators, establishing a new attendance record. This massive turnout underscored the event's transformation into one of the Netherlands' premier sporting spectacles while maintaining its incredible racing legacy.
"This award is a huge compliment to everyone who delivers the Dutch GP," said Arjan Bos, Chairman of the Board at TT Circuit Assen. "We've built the event around three pillars: putting the sport first by providing the best possible service to teams and riders; putting our fans first with the best experience we can offer, including hospitality; and adding entertainment that makes the weekend truly unique — from music, flypasts and fireworks to a spectacular opening ceremony and a podium where the bikes rise on a lift."
Bos emphasized the circuit's long-term vision and commitment to excellence. "Combined with our century of racing history and the great names engraved on the trophy, this is exactly what we set out to build years ago — and we'll keep raising the bar," he added.
MotoGP leadership praised Assen's continued evolution and dedication to enhancing the fan experience. "Assen has a special place in the hearts of many MotoGP fans and it is easy to understand why," said Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group. "The venue as it is today is a modern circuit with incredibly high standards, creating truly amazing races, and its history speaks for itself."
Ezpeleta highlighted the circuit's ongoing development and growing popularity among motorsport enthusiasts. "We're very proud to have witnessed much of this evolution firsthand and to see Assen continue to set attendance records – welcoming more and more fans with even more activities and entertainment for them to enjoy," he noted.
The MotoGP chief executive acknowledged the competitive nature of the award selection process. "Best Grand Prix is a hotly contested award and we want to congratulate everyone at the TT Circuit Assen, and the whole Dutch GP team, for this achievement," Ezpeleta said.
The recognition caps off what organizers describe as a record-breaking 2025 MotoGP season. Assen's combination of historic significance, modern facilities, and comprehensive entertainment offerings distinguished it from other venues in the championship.
Known affectionately as "The Cathedral" among motorcycle racing fans, Assen has consistently delivered spectacular racing while continuously upgrading its facilities and fan amenities. The circuit's unique features include innovative podium presentations where motorcycles rise on mechanical lifts.
The Best Grand Prix trophy will be presented during pre-race ceremonies at the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix, setting the stage for another potential classic at the legendary venue.
