The 2026 Hankook Mexico City E-Prix, held at the iconic Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, delivered a mix of excitement and intrigue as fifteen drivers completed the event. Notably, Andretti Global experienced both hurdles and achievements, which shifted the dynamics of the championship standings.

Seventeen cars took to the track for the race, completing a cumulative 712 laps, clocking an impressive 93.7% of the maximum possible laps for the event. As the race concluded, Andretti was no longer at the top of the Teams' Championship, falling to second place with 36 points, trailing behind Citroën Racing by eight points. "The championship battle is tight, but we’re focused on maximizing our performance in the upcoming races," said Andretti’s spokesperson, reflecting the team's mindset.

Jake Dennis, competing in his 31st Duel, secured a commendable fifth-place finish, marking the 69th top-five result for Andretti Formula E and the 132nd top-10 finish overall. His performance was further highlighted by setting the Fastest Lap of the race, which now brings the team's Fastest Lap tally to 18. "Overall, it’s been a positive weekend. We were quick in the Free Practice sessions and topped the Qualifying group stage," Dennis remarked.

The race saw a notable interruption when Mahindra's Nyck de Vries encountered difficulties, prompting a Full Course Yellow on Lap 18 that transitioned into a Safety Car by Lap 20. This period of caution led to the addition of two laps to the originally scheduled race distance. Dennis, who had started from seventh on the grid, utilized a strategic approach, managing energy effectively throughout the race to finish strongly in the top five.

In the early stages of the race, Dennis showcased his skill, advancing to fourth place by Lap 8. "I just felt like we weren’t quite quick enough towards the end of the race when Nick was charging ahead," he added, reflecting on the challenges faced during the final laps. Initially, he lost ground to DS Penske’s Taylor Barnard due to contact on Lap 10 but quickly regained his position, aided by a strong energy advantage over his competitors.

On the other side of the garage, Felipe Drugovich faced a more challenging race. After qualifying eighth in Group B, he struggled to maintain momentum and faced setbacks with a disrupted Attack Mode sequence that limited his ability to secure points. "It was a tough race for me, but I learned a lot, and I’m looking forward to improving in the next event," stated Drugovich, highlighting his determination.

Even though Dennis couldn’t maintain his lead in the Drivers' Championship, he remains only four points behind race winner Nick Cassidy. The competition is fierce, and the strategy played a crucial role in the race's outcome. "Running a late Attack Mode strategy, we were in a good position, but the last few laps were incredibly intense," Dennis explained, emphasizing the difficulties faced during the closing stages of the race.

The day began with Free Practice sessions, where drivers struggled with low track temperatures and grip issues. Dennis finished fifth in Free Practice 2, while Drugovich was classified in 18th. Dennis’s early speed translated well into the race, especially after leading Group A in qualifying, setting expectations high for the race itself.

The Andretti Formula E team's effort at the Mexico City E-Prix indicates a commitment to competitive performance amidst the ever-present challenges of the sport. With a reassessment on the horizon, focus will shift towards maximizing potential points in the upcoming races.

As the 2026 season progresses, the continuing rivalry will keep fans on edge, with Andretti Global aiming to reclaim their position in both the Drivers' and Teams' Championships. The next race could prove pivotal as the quest for points intensifies, particularly with the championship gap remaining narrow. The team appears resolute in their determination to push for both individual and collective success in the forthcoming challenges ahead.
